Garden Rules
1) The garden shall be open to the public during daylight hours, during good weather. The steering committee shall arrange for the gates to be unlocked and locked on a regular schedule.
2) The public is encouraged to apply for membership in the garden, which membership requires a commitment of at least two hours’ work in the garden per month during the season between mid-March and mid-November.
3) Members are encouraged to take part in the communal duties involved in the operation and maintenance of the garden (planting, watering, picking up garbage, tending the compost, clearing the paths of stones and weeds, raising funds, design of the garden, gaining access to resources, planning special events).
4) Members are not allowed to work in any other participant's plot(s) without first getting the explicit approval of that gardener. No gardener shall remove or otherwise disturb another gardener's plants without that gardener's explicit approval.
5) The allocation of gardening space is the duty of the garden coordinators. Those wishing to garden should contact a garden coordinator or steering committee member. Members who wish to increase or otherwise alter their gardening space or to tend additional space should consult the garden coordinators and not proceed until approval is granted.
6) Structural additions or alternations to any portion of the garden are subject to the approval of the steering committee and the three leaseholders. This includes the building of walls, the installation of benches, walkways or the use of other non-plant material. No non-organic material shall be brought into the garden for temporary or permanent placement in the garden, whether in an individual plot or in other parts of the garden, unless permission is granted by the steering committee. The planting or removal of trees must be approved by the steering committee and the three leaseholders before proceeding with the plans.
7) No non-organic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers shall be used in the garden.
8) Visitors and members shall conduct themselves with courtesy towards others while in the garden.
9) Picking flowers from the garden prohibited, including from one’s own plot. Removing plants from the garden is prohibited, except from one’s own plot.
10) Pets shall not be brought into the garden.
11) No person will be denied participation in garden activities or be otherwise subjected to discrimination on the basis or race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, handicap, marital status, sexual orientation or affectional preference, or location of his or her residence.
12) No person shall ride a bike within the garden.
13) No person may garden in, weed, or otherwise disturb the non–assigned plots and common parts of the garden without the explicit permission of, and direction by, a garden coordinator.
14) No person may prune in the non–assigned plots or common parts of the garden without the explicit permission of, and direction by, a garden coordinator.
15) Members may apply for voting rights in the garden organization after having provided at least four hours’ work per month in the garden for at least three month in one season.
16) Feeding pigeons and/or squirrels is prohibited.
17) Dumping trash or garbage in the garden is prohibed.
