West 111th Street People's Garden

This garden was first registered as an Operation GreenThumb with the support of Community Board #9M in June 1988. It is a joint project of the West 111th Street Block Association and the tenants' associations of the two adjacent buildings, 1046 Amsterdam Avenue and 503 West 111th Street.

A joint committee from those three organizations controls the site, which they have placed at the disposal of the West 111th Street People's Garden, a subordinate organization whose voting members elect members of the steering committee, which governs the site as a community garden.
